A redesign using no Teaser photos, just heads.
This is the shape and content of the photo used with the original story layout. It contains more information than is necessary. I think the cropped photo shows the speaker and the audience more directly.
This is the redesign.
The elements used are Column Splitter and Article List. The KSYM and photojournalist stories are both tagged as Top Story. The color is done with CSS:
Here's another look at a redesign, using an old-fashioned kicker in the headline. This can be done with CSS also. (Forgive the spelling of "more." Haste makes waste.)
— Adding a banner public service announcement. It can be click-able.
This banner currently appears on the front (May 30). It is 640 pixels wide and it is loaded onto the site using the Photo Element. Another PSA was the one at right, and it fits into one side of a Column Splitter at 300 pixels.
Use the space wisely, but know it is there if needed.
